Horizontal:
This type of expansion is when one type of media for example a television programme joins forces with another company along the supply chain. This other company also are based around television production. The type of expansions means that the companies cannot move up or down within the supply chain as they are staying static but are just joining forces.
Vertical:
This expansion is when one media group for example a TV production ( TV Marketing Company) company merges with another company who are associated with another type of media. For example TV Distribution. This could make the two companies either go up the supply chain or result in going down.
Diagonal/Lateral:
Diagonal or Lateral expansion is when one media expands into a different type of media to be able to expand upon their own business. For example TV production might expand into web pages, games, magazines print media), Apps. This allows media companies to go to completely different media sectors.
From this lesson, I know understand an aware of the three different types of expansion and how they effect what happens in the media industry. Furthermore I understand the supply chain and how media can move up or down in the supply chain.
