Lighting

To be able to create different atmospheres we played around with the lighting. To do this we got a lamp and turnt the lights off. Here we investigated with different light sources. By investigating different light sources it allowed us to see how bright we wanted the projector to be. The two types of lighting are high key lighting and low key lighting.

Low Key Lighting: This lighting has a dark atmosphere and mainly includes the colours of black and grey.  This lighting is created by a back light. This produces light in dark areas which can be effective for example when creating a thriller film.

High Key Lighting: This aims to reduce the ratio of lighting in a scene. This is the opposite to low key lighting. Here we see that white is mainly used along with bright colours which signifies a happier atmosphere. Whereas with low key lighting the colours of black and grey are used which creates a dull atmosphere.

In our title sequence we are planning on having the criminals face being projected onto a whiteboard from a projector. Here we are going to use inter cutting between the police officer and the criminal. When the inter-cutting is taking place it would be best to use low key lighting. One reason why it would be best to use low key lighting is because when we are inter cutting the criminal walking we want to create a dark atmosphere. This will help to set the scene. By using low key lighting it will also help us to create a tensed atmosphere which is what we are hoping to create.
From looking into the different types of lighting has now enabled use to visualise the atmosphere we wish to create when using low key lighting.
