The Thriller Genre

As our first part of our research we as a group decided to research the Thriller Genre to see what it includes and the conventions and codes of the genre. This would allow use to have further knowloedge on what we should include in our opening of a thriller.

The Thriller Genre:
Main Elements: Suspense, Tension and Excitement -  By including these elements into our opening is what's going to make our opening stand out as a thriller.

Primary Sub-Genre: Psychological Thriller - Knowing that the primary sub-genre is a psychological thriller means that we now know that this is what most people are likely to make. This piece of information allows us to be able to make our thriller opening more original. It will also allow us to deicde on how we are going to start the opening.

Characters:Criminals, Stalkers, Assassins, Innocent victims (often on the run), Menaced women, Characters with dark pasts, Psychotic individuals, Terrorists, Cops and escaped cons, Private eyes, People involved in twisted relationships, World-weary women, Psycho-fiends - This knowledge of characters will help us in choosing the type of people to have in our thriller opening.

Thriller sub-genres: Psychological thriller, Crime thriller, Mystery Thriller, Paranoid thriller, Conspiracy thriller, Erotic thriller, Legal thriller, Political thriller, Rape and Revenge thriller and Supernatural thriller - This group of thriller sub-genres will help us when choosing our own genre by broadening our knowledge of the sub-genres that already exist, again allowing us to make a more original thriller opening.

From carrying out this research it has allowed use as a group to anaylise how the different aspects of the genre will help us when it comes to making our own. It will also help us as we will clearly be able to see what other thrillers tend to include and how we can make ours stand out from them. This will also help use in the planning process of our thriller as we will be able to link this research with the research from the thriller movies and see what aspects they have included.
